I wore a fleece jacket on Saturday. That is just wrong. It is May…it is supposed to be jeans and t-shirt weather. Not fleece. Every year we go to the Rooster Days parade….here is us back as a little family of three. Seems like forever ago. It makes me sad I can’t remember much about my oldest back then.

The Rooster Days parade is my favorite parade because it is typically warm. We usually sit in shorts and sunglasses – both of which I like. The parade isn’t really all that impressive, but when you attend it with young kids they think it is fun. It has very small town local feeling – which I also like. Lots of people just walking holding posters. This year there was a group of realtors walking in matching shirts. That was a bit odd to me, but hey maybe their walking helped boost the local housing market. Who am I to judge parade walking realtors?
Her hot pink cast is starting to look mauve from the dirt…time to bring on the sharpies.
Leading the parade each year is the BlueBell ice cream truck. 1000s of free mini ice cream sandwiches are passed out. Chris used to work for BlueBell…I really liked visiting him at work back then.
After about an hour the parade ends with horses. Lots of horses.
The boys watch the horses waiting intently for ONE THING. They know it will happen, so they wait and watch.
This year it happened directly in front of us. We got the extra parade perk of smelling the aroma. The parade was a success.
And following close behind the horses is the cleanup crew. And one more Rooster Day parade comes to a close.
Happy Monday….may it be all you hope it will.

Kristin - Love your sense of humor, Ashley. =) Happy Monday!
sonja - Parades–so true that we do them for the kids. You got some great memories of the day. I just have to ask: Rooster Day? What is that?
Robyn Farmer - Blue Bell! We live in Brenham just a few blocks away from the big Blue Bell creamery, in fact we are going up there today for a scoop to celebrate our daughters 2nd Birthday. It’s the best ice cream EVER!
Rachel - HA HA HA HA! Love them boys!
Anna - that is hilarious! crazy boys! I love local parades!
mandi@herbanhomestead - Hahaha!!! Nothing is more exciting in a parade than poop!
It’s funny to see the Blue Bell support- I know I’ve mentioned it before, but that is our town too. Blue Bell is always so generous. And our town smells like cookies a lot of the time!
Nicole - too funny!!!
Katie - Thanks for the morning chuckle about the horses! I have 3 boys and a husband:) Love!
Shannon - Okay, almost every time I read your posts I see things that you have that I have as well…clothes both your boys and firecracker have that my kids have, things around the house, etc and this post…that striped blanket! I love how close our styles must be! Of course, you can do all the crafty stuff that I love and can’t do lol. Love your blog!
tiffani - I knew it had to be the poop! Can’t believe you were ‘just’ a family of three in 2005-time flies but seems like sooo much has changed for you guys in just a handful of years! Happy Monday:)
colleen from alabama - LOVE it! We live in a section of Birmingham, Alabama called Homewood. We are about 4 miles max from downtown but it has a very small town feel. Lots of 1920’s & 30’s houses.we have a day every may called “we love homewood day”. It ends with a parade down the 2 main streets and then a street dance in one of the small business districts. All floats have candy, tshirts, beads, moonpies, something and they throw them to the children. One pizza place float even gave away a few unbaked pizzas to some lucky mamas! Last year the same place (papa murphy’s) gave away tubs of cookie dough and i was a lucky recipient. It is most definitely a FUN day and just like you guys, we’ve been doing it since our kids were babies (now 8 & 11!) We also have a Christmas parade that is the same way. thanks for sharing your “small town” tradition!
JulieB - Haha my kids love the horses too and for the same reason. I can totally see my old sad little yellow house in the background! I hated that house, but we did have a great spot for the parade! My mom lives in one of the apartments over back creek deli (her until I move out to my retirement cottage home) so we still have a pretty good spot.
Melissa W. - I love the small-town-feel parades. I wish we had one here! One of the disadvantages of needing to move closer to my husband’s work. Great photos, looks like an awesome day. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Alice H - We go to the Parade every year too. Plus this year my daughter was marching with the 6th grade Haskell band.
I have friends that work at Blue Bell!!
And yuck…poop!
One year I will find that darn rooster egg!!
Alisa - we have a few small parades like that in our town too! one difference is that we laugh at the boys on rollerskates that are following all of the horses and scooping up the pies and putting them in the other’s wheelbarrow… its pretty funny.
natalie - Ashley, you’ve had a lot of poop references lately- this one cracked me up!
Mirys from Brazil - the photo of #3 and ice cream is PERFECT!!!
Kisses and blessings.

Mwojo - Blue Bell Ice Cream! I never comment anywhere online, but I couldn’t resist. We are Texans and now live in Washington DC. One of the things we miss most about Texas (excluding family and friends) is Blue Bell Ice Cream. There really is no comparison! Enjoy some Blue Bell for me!
Jessica P - Realtors in matching shirts? Exciting stuff. Still…any parade is good if you know funnel cake is in your near future. 🙁
Yanet of 3 Sun Kissed Boys - Ashley, you should start a list of things the cast is good for (blog post, perhaps). 1st up, doodling!! It’s a great way to spin the pain-in-the-toosh thing!!
Laurie J - i knew it. having 3 boys i knew exactly where you were going with the horses….love the facial pic you captured 😉
<3
Amanda M. - Totally Random…and way late…. I used to have the striped comforter in the second and third photo! I miss that comforter now that I remembered having it!! HAHA. 🙂 btw…I am in absolute aww and love your blog, your strength as a momma, and your creativity. I have a son with sensory processing disorder and once we get to a better point in life and therapy…we will be frequenting your blog and your creativity ideas!! 🙂
