SnapShop {May 2011}

So last weekend I had the second SnapShop of the year. I’ve never done them back to back, but scheduled it that way this year. The last two weeks have felt a bit like a whirlwind – which right now the faster time goes the closer we are to getting The Cast removed. I feel like I should name it since it feels like it weighs enough to be my fifth child. I really enjoy teaching photography – I enjoy the small setting and meeting such great women (& men). Last weekend’s group was so much fun. As always we started with some of the boys doing their normal thing. Legos.

24-70mm lens: f/2.8, 1/125, ISO 200

For our afternoon session we had 5 super cute babies model….sweetness.

85mm lens: f/2.0, 1/640, ISO 100

85mm lens: f/2.8, 1/250, ISO 100 —- 85mm lens: f/3.5, 1/200, ISO 100

85mm lens: f/2.8, 1/400, ISO 100 —- 85mm lens: f/2.8, 1/320, ISO 100

85mm lens: f/3.5, 1/200, ISO 100

Photo tip: On the photo below I wanted to point out something to you. I was so caught up in her sweet face I wasn’t paying much attention to my background. If you look, you can see the tree behind her is lined up right with her head – this is called a merger. Since the tree is blurry it isn’t too bad, but this would have been a better picture if I had scooted to the left just enough to put the tree on her side instead of behind her head.

We attempted a group shot of all the sweet babies. Surprisingly it worked…

And on a totally unrelated note….I forgot to determine the winners of the Sweet Water Child Lullabies for Getty albums! Yikes, I am so late on this and I apologize. Usually you all remind me when I forget to announce giveaway winners. How did we all forget?! Here are the winners (girls you should have an email from me):

Sheena: “Ashley, I cant thank you enough for bringing awareness to SMA. I have a nephew who is living with SMA and it really is a sadly unknown and misunderstood disease. When people spread awareness, it makes me so happy. So, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Praying for you family. Aloha!”

Laurie J
.: “read Getty’s blog. I was overwhelmed with the strength of the mom and that loving, incredible care little Getty needs. prayers prayed for the sweet fam! <3”

Jessica Lynn: “Read both blogs….crying all over my keyboard..I think I am going to snuggle with my little girls tonight in their beds. Great post Ashley.”

Have a Great Weekend!

  • tina - The dark-haired little in those colors makes for striking photos, tree-merger or not. Great job! A novice with my Canon xsi & nifty fifty lens, can I just use the same f/stop, ss, & iso that you do or do i need to adjust the settings to make up for the difference in mm (mine 50mm, yours 24-70)? Love your photos!

  • amanda torres - I love the pic of your sister chasing down Sweet P. AND, Bopha, can I please have your girl? Please!!!!!

  • Ryan - What a bunch of cute babies! And what a fun shoot! 🙂

  • Christie - I love these shots–thanks for sharing them with us and your settings on your camera! I have SO much to learn! Baby steps:).

  • meg duerksen - i love the ruffley dress but i LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress with the pink and red polka dots! that is my fave fabric this year!
this looked like a fun day!

  • erin - so much fun! i’ve been practicing all week!

  • Bopha - What cute babies!! Those girls had their work cut out for them. Thank you so much for asking Harper to model, we had a good time.

  • Shannon - Anyone know what that fabric is on the dress?!?! I would LOVE to get my hands on some!

  • Emily - I have been convinced of 2 things: 1) I need that 24-70mm lens and 2) I need to attend a snap shop. Time to start saving my pennies!

  • Emily - ok, I just checked the snap shop and I’m changing #2 to: please develop an intermediate-level snap shop. I have a basic understanding of shooting manually, but it’s unreliable and I’m not very confident, so some hands-on instruction would be lovely. When you decide that’s something you want to do, I’ll sign up. Until then, I will continue to stalk your blog.

  • Laurie J - those snap shops look like fun! what a great pic to end with (minor miracle to get 5 babies lined up so nicely!) and yay for a giveaway win. thanks, ashley!

  • Jenny Joy - That all looks like soooooo much fun!

And by the way, the last picture of all those wee ones, lined up in a row? It made me spontaneously ovulate. SO. STINKIN’. CUTE.

  • Tara A. - Sims had a blast at the photo shoot. Thanks Ashley They were all soooo stinkin cute.

  • Kelly - Are all of these pictures that you posted SOOC? Or have they been edited?

  • Trista - I know this is totally unrelated to the subject of this post, but WHERE do these women shop? Their outfits are adorable. I totally want to come raid their closets.

  • Emily Langston - I love that the little one is beeping the other’s nose in the group shot! Those babies are precious!!

  • laura hamilton - what 85mm lens are you using???????

  • Asha - That baby lineup is to die for!!!!

  • Lesley - Thanks for letting P model! She had a great time, though her face didn’t show it!

  • Bopha - Here’s the link to Harper’s dress, it was bought on etsy. The lady has tons of great fabrics, it makes it hard to choose. After all the comments, I thought I better divulge my source : )

  • Carrie Ryan - Gosh I would LOVE to take one of your Snap Shops!

  • Lorena - Hi Ashley, I am soooo jealous of all US residence who are able to attend your snapshot sessions!!! Well that brings me to my plea – are you going to have an online course this year pleeeeeeeeeeeeease? For us photography starved Australians? I just got a DSLR camera and only know a few things – would be great if you could explain settings etc?

  • Alice H - what adorable babies!! I wish I could do one of these classes…next year I will be there!!

If you ever need a 12 year old girl with some pretty blue-ish gray eyes to model…I have her. I also have a 10 year old boy who has been called a heartbreaker. And a sweet baby boy (15 months) with some big brown eyes.

  • erin - hey ashley, i just found a link that i thought i’d share. i haven’t played with it much…just found it on a different blog. my email is being strange tonight so that’s why i’m leaving it in a comment.
