DIY {homemade finger paint/goop}

Another addition to my new blogsite is going to be fun, SIMPLE (because with 3 kids I don’t have time for things with lots of steps!) Do It Yourself projects. Some will be beautiful things for your home, others will just be fun stuff to do with your kids. This first one is a simple non-toxic, washable finger paint/goop. The longer you cook it depends on if it will be more of a paint or more of a goop. We invited a couple of the boys friends over, put on swimsuits and let them go at it….clean up was simple by setting up the sprinkler. I made a NO PAINT BRUSH rule, but if you like things cleaner you could set up an easel and use brushes…

Combine 4 tablespoons of sugar & 1/2 cup cornstarch together; add 2 cups cold water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the desired thickness is reached. (It will get thicker as it cools). Add food coloring as desired.

Since it is just sugar and cornstarch you don’t have to worry about it getting in little mouths, which is pretty important at my house!

  • Chris Campbell - Brother “C” I love the hair. It is almost as cool as your mohawk days. Looks pretty gross which goes well with my brood of boys. Daddeo

  • Carrie Sowell - How absolutely fun….I wonder what my girls would do with it!! I know McKinley would eat all of it without knowing that it was paint and not icing!

  • Lauren - Thanks for letting us share in the fun, crazy mess. The boys had a lot of fun!

  • Shanalea - Ash, I did this with 9 boys and guess what my oldest was the only one to get into it which he usually doesn’t like to get dirty. It was cool to watch the chemical change though and the boys did enjoy helping me make the paint. We are going to try to salt dough magnets this Thursday with some friends. It is a part of my summer fun with the boys to do a hands on activity once a week with some friends. I love being home in the summer.

  • Maggie - oh this looks so fun…
